Director of Music

Peter Kurdziel has been the Director of Music at the Basilica since August of 2010. He earned degrees in organ from Hope College where he was a student of Huw Lewis and the University of Notre Dame where he was a student of Craig Cramer. He is currently a candidate for the Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) where he is a student of Dana Robinson. In addition to the organ, Peter has also studied voice, conducting, harpsichord, and theology at the graduate level.

Peter is the dean of the Grand Rapids Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and past dean of the Muskegon-Lakeshore Chapter. He has also served on the board of the Grand Rapids Chapter of the National Pastoral Musicians.

    • Thank you for your note, Roger. Prelude will begin at 11:30pm with music by Handel, Lauridsen, and others. Both the chamber choir and handbell choir will take part. The handbells will also play the traditional “Carol of the Bells” and the choir will be singing a very nice arrangement of “O Holy Night” written by James Biery – a musician currently living in the Detroit area. I will team up with our trumpeters for a movement of Vivaldi for the postlude.
